HNC Textiles (Fashion and Textiles Design)
Course Content
This hands-on course is aimed at creative individuals interested in Fashion and Textile Design for the fashion and interiors industries, developing creative thinking, making and design skills through research, sketchbooks and practical work.
You will study pattern cutting and garment construction to produce a fashion garment, stitched textiles, fashion and interior trends, design and developmental drawing with media exploration, sustainability, and digital imaging. You will learn about job roles within the industry, producing a strong portfolio for university or professional progression. The course also offers links to local companies and exhibition opportunities.
Entry Requirements
Nat 5 Art & Design or Fashion & Textiles Technology and 1 relevant Higher/equivalent qualifications, preferably in Art/Design at grade C or above or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 6 course (and minimum 85% attendance).
Candidates should bring to interview a satisfactory portfolio of drawings and designs. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a strong portfolio and relevant experience.
To progress into 2nd year of this course, learners must successfully complete all 1st year units and have satisfactory attendance, timekeeping and commitment.
Method of Assessment
Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.
Future Prospects
Learners can progress onto HND Textiles. Apprenticeship opportunities may be available within the course.
