Course Content

This course will enable you to study a range of subjects such as Play and Outdoor Learning, Communication with Children and Young People, Understanding Mental Health and Coping Strategies and Maintaining Safe Environments in Care.

Throughout this course you will develop your digital skills and the knowledge and values which underpin care practice.

This course will include a mixture of indoor and outdoor learning. You are encouraged to participate in volunteering activities to relate theory to practice and develop your caring skills.

Entry Requirements

Three National 4s in academic subjects (or equivalent) or successful completion of a relevant National 4 Certificate course. Adult returners without formal qualifications but who have work or volunteering experience are also welcome.

 

Selection is based on: a personal statement, qualifications and/or experience and an invitation to a group information session where you will undertake a small practical team and written task.

Applications will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Method of Assessment

Assessments include practical demonstrations, project work, presentations, report writing and short answer questions.

Future Prospects

May lead onto a relevant Level 6 course in care. Learners may wish to seek employment as a childcare assistant, playgroup assistant, nursery assistant or after-school club assistant.
