Dundee & Angus College celebrates another year of impact through Tay Cities Region Deal projects
Dundee & Angus College is celebrating another successful year of delivering transformational projects through the Tay Cities Region Deal, with newly published annual reports showcasing significant progress in developing skills, supporting businesses and inspiring the next generation across Tayside.
Through three major initiatives — the Tay Cities Engineering Partnership (TCEP), Science Futures, and the Tay Cities SME Skills Fund — the College continues to play a leading role in strengthening the region's workforce and supporting economic growth.
The reports highlight a year of strong achievements across education, industry collaboration and workforce development.
The Tay Cities Engineering Partnership has now achieved several of its long-term 2030 targets ahead of schedule, including engaging more than 10,000 school pupils with engineering, creating five new jobs and supporting over 50 companies through the Engineering Partnership Innovation Centre (EPIC). New industry-focused courses in areas including automation, CNC machining, additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing are helping equip learners with the practical skills employers need, while businesses continue to benefit from specialist training, innovation support and collaborative research projects.
Science Futures has also made significant progress in building the pipeline of future talent for the life sciences sector. During the past year, the project has reached more than 1,400 school pupils through STEM engagement activities, secured work placements with leading employers including the University of Dundee and Thermo Fisher Scientific, introduced new specialist laboratory facilities at Dundee & Angus College, and developed new industry-focused training programmes to support the growing biotech, biomedical and agritech sectors.
Meanwhile, the Tay Cities SME Skills Fund continues to help businesses invest in their people. Over the past year, the fund supported 56 businesses across Dundee, Angus, Perth and Fife, enabling more than 1,250 employees to access training through 165 funded courses. From leadership and management to digital skills, mental health and sustainability, the programme is helping organisations improve productivity, develop their workforce and prepare for future challenges.
Across all three projects, collaboration remains at the heart of delivery. Working alongside local authorities, universities, schools, employers and industry partners, Dundee & Angus College continues to create opportunities that benefit learners, businesses and communities throughout the region.
As the projects continue to develop, future priorities include expanding employer engagement, creating more opportunities for learners through live industry projects, increasing access to advanced technologies, and inspiring even more young people to consider careers in engineering, science and manufacturing.
Together, the three programmes demonstrate the lasting impact of investment in skills, innovation and partnership working, helping to build a stronger, more resilient economy for Tayside.
