NC Childhood Practice
Course Content
This Course provides a broad-based study of the range of topics, both theory and practice based, related to early learning and childcare.
Learners are provided with opportunities to learn about supporting children’s development, promoting children’s rights, planning effective play experiences, and promoting an inclusive curriculum. Learners will be afforded the opportunity to progress their knowledge, skills and understanding of the roles of professionals and services who can support children and families and enhance their personal development.
There will be opportunities for experiential learning and an opportunity to complete a work placement in a suitable setting.
Entry Requirements
Three National 5s at grade C or above (one of these must be English) or equivalent. Applicants who have successfully completed National 5 Child, Health and Social Care or National 5 Certificate in Early Education and Childcare will also be considered. Mature applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.
Selection is based on: personal statement, qualifications and/or experience, one satisfactory reference and completion of a short values task. All applicants will require an acceptable PVG record.
Method of Assessment
Integrated assessments, class activities, written reports, essays and practical experiences on work placement.
Future Prospects
Possible progression to areas of study to HNC Childhood Practice, university or employment. This course is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration requirements at support worker level within a childhood practice setting.
