Nicola McIver, who is in the second year of her HND course, enjoyed an intensive programme of study at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland, having won a HITS (Hospitality Industry Trust Scotland) bursary.

The 23-year-old spent four days at the internationally-renowned hotel management college, joining other students in customer care training classes.

At the end of her stint blending in with students from around the world, Nicola was awarded a certificate – bearing the name of the institution which is frequently ranked the best in the world.

The Dundee resident was delighted to have had the opportunity of studying in Lausanne, even for just a short while.

“I’m really grateful to HITS for funding this project and for my lecturers for putting my name forward for the bursary,” said Nicola.

“It was an amazing experience, the standard of education is incredible, with one lecturer to every two or three students!”

Established more than 20 years ago HITS aims to help people achieve their potential within the hospitality industry in Scotland.

“Nicola’s enthusiasm and commitment meant she was an excellent candidate for this bursary,” said course leader Kichelle Williams-Robinson.

“We put her name forward as she is very hard-working, very committed, and we were confident she would share the best practises she was exposed to in Lausanne with her fellow students.”
