Picking up a prize at the D&A annual awards ceremony was no problem for Agne Balciene – the beauty therapist has ‘nailed’ a number of prizes while at college.

During her two years studying at Kingsway Campus, the mother-of-two landed awards from both the AHT (Association of Hairdressers and Therapists) and Worldskills UK competitions.

The Dundee resident was being awarded the SQA Beauty Therapy Award at the college ceremony at Gardyne Theatre on May 31 – but had to rush straight from her part time job in a beauty salon in Cupar to get to the event!

Agne was adding her D&A prize to the bronze medal she won earlier this year at the AHT finals when she showed real polish in the nail art competition.

The student had to win her place by first competing in the heats in Aberdeen before proving her worth in UK national finals in Blackpool.

Prior to that Agne had also enjoyed success at the World Skills, beauty therapy contest held in Greenock last year where she won a runner’s-up spot.

All told, the student has won about half a dozen awards

“I think I have been very lucky,” said the student.

“D&A staff have entered me for a range of competitions and I hope I have repaid the trust they placed in me.”

Agne’s successful run is far from over however, she intends to return to Kingsway Campus next year to undertake an HNC.
