Giving up a full-time job is a bit of a risk but that’s something 37-year-old Lisa Davies was prepared to do if it meant progressing in her career.
Lisa Davies, HNC Social Services graduate.
“I worked 13 years in the same job in Social Care for Angus Council. I obtained both my SVQ 2 and 3 within my workplace, however once these were achieved I had reached as far as I could go professionally in my current role. I have always wanted to go on to study for my social work degree but I was nervous so I decided to go to Dundee and Angus College to obtain my HNC in Social Services to prepare me for university.”
Lisa gave up her full-time job, reducing her contract from 30 hours to 8 hours a week.
“This was a huge deal for me as I am a single mum with two children - I am the only one who pays the bills. I wanted to inspire my 17-year-old daughter and show her that no matter how old you are, what your situation is in life you can make your dreams and goals come true if you are willing to work hard enough.”
Lisa is now studying for a BA Hons in Social Work at Robert Gordon University.
“College gave me confidence and the belief in myself to go on to higher education. It was an amazing experience and I will never forget the support and inspiration of the lecturers. They equipped me with the tools I needed to thrive and succeed at university.”
