The Dundee resident completed SVQ level 3 hairdressing this year and has already put the skills he has learned to good use – starting his own hairdressing/beauty therapy business; being approached to be stylist for GLOW, Glasgow’s on-line answer to TOWIE; and working as a Christian Dior consultant.
The former Menzieshill HS pupil started college in 2014, studying for an NC but showed such aptitude that he bi-passed second year and went straight to SVQ 3.
The student even won the National Hairdressing Federation Award at the annual college prize-giving event – the first guy to win it since 1977.
While studying, the 28-year-old was chosen to step in when the college received a call from the producer of a locally-made film desperately seeking the services of a stylist and a beauty therapist.
Jonathan found himself outside St Vigeans Church, where Kate Dickie, star of the acclaimed ‘Red Road’ was filming a funeral scene.
“Filming was going to be held up because of illness and the film-makers contacted the college at very short notice,” said the student.
“I was pleased to be chosen to do Kate’s hair while my classmate, Grace Sandeman, took the role of make-up artist.
“College staff even ferried us to and from the location.”
Even with all his other commitments Jonathan has returned to D&A College having enrolled on the new HNC fashion make-up programme running at Kingsway Campus.
