‘Not Only Fair Play’ is an Erasmus+ initiative designed to promote academic subjects among sports-loving pupils while encouraging sports among academic pupils.

The project also aims to boost an interest in less-fashionable sports while also upholding the values of fair play.

S2/3 pupils from city schools Grove Academy, Morgan Academy, Craigie HS along with Websters HS in Kirriemuir and Arbroath Academy, enjoyed a variety of sports and activities at D&A Gardyne Campus.

Taster sessions in frisbee, skipping and speedminton – an alternative to tennis, squash and badminton – were all on offer.

The event was supervised by both sports staff and students at D&A College, plus staff from Dundee Academy of Sport, which is based in Enterprise D&A – also on the Gardyne Campus.

“By highlighting an alternative this project encourages inclusivity in sport,” commented Lol Scragg, project leader international services, at D&A College.

“For example, I remember all too painfully being ‘last man picked’ for football when I was at school but I really enjoyed cricket.

“Sometimes it is just a matter of introducing people to something new and watching them discover that they like it.”
