A total of 14 S1 and S2 pupils, representing seven schools from Angus, Dundee and Perth, descended on Kingsway Campus for the baking competition on Friday, June 17.

The pupils had all entered their recipes in advance and these ranged from maple and bacon to banana and fudge, with feta cheese and black olive being an option, all vying with sour cream and chive with smoked salmon!

Once at D&A College the competition participants had 60 minutes to prepare their scones.

Judging was by Karen Murray, of McLaren Bakery, Forfar, and Peter Menzies, Deacon of the Baker Trade, one of the Nine incorporated Trades of Dundee.

Rebecca Stewart (Dundee HS) won the top prize while Websters HS pupil Beth Mowatt was runner up and Cara Frew of Blairgowrie HS scooped third place.

All the finalists were invited to visit the Dundee Flower and Food Festival at Camperdown Country Park, in September.
