Ryan Ramsay and Andrew Paterson screwed up their courage to take part in the CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) SkillBuild contest, and saw off the opposition to win silver and bronze respectively in the regional heat.

Andrew is a first-year apprentice with Dundee-based firm, McGill, and competed in the New Entrant Carpentry category.

As well as winning bronze the 23-year-old was named best apprentice.

Also in the first year of his apprenticeship, 20-year-old Ryan is employed by city-firm, R&A Joinery Services.

The trainee joiner not only nailed second place in the New Entrant class but was also named as most-improved apprentice.

D&A College staff also rewarded Ryan’s efforts this year when he was presented with the Construction Crafts Award: best apprentice all trades at the college prize-giving ceremony held in the Gardyne theatre.
