Update on Student Resulting and Outcomes
As we get to the end of semester two, we thought that it would be useful to provide an update for all students on where we are in terms of resulting and outcomes.
This is quite complex, so please take time to read through this message in terms of the type of course you are doing, and also pay attention to any specific information that your teaching staff share with you in terms of your own course and subject.
Arrangements for most College students have been agreed with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), and your teaching staff have been looking at the work you have undertaken, and the progress you have made on your course, to determine whether you have shown enough work to have passed.
Further details on this approach is available in our Message for our students, Monday 20 April and staff will be in a position to confirm outcomes from these arrangements over the next few weeks.
This will ensure that certificates can be awarded as normal over the summer. In the meantime, keep in touch with your teaching staff.
Further information is also available on the SQA website.
The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) have agreed an arrangement with schools and colleges where the outcomes for those qualifications that would normally have been part of their main exam diet.
Outcomes will be based on estimates that teaching staff submit based on the work you have already undertaken, and the progress you have made on your course. SQA will review the estimates that we submit and they will then decide on the grade that you will receive in place of the normal exam/assignments.
Your teaching staff are working on these arrangements and estimates now, and will send these to SQA before the end of May. Please note that we cannot tell you what your estimate is until after SQA announces results on 4 August 2020.
SQA will issue final grades and certificates as usual on Tuesday 4 August 2020.
For further details please look at the SQA website.
Unfortunately the position in terms of Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), apprenticeships and a wide range of qualifications awarded by a number of other awarding bodies is more complex and your teaching staff will advise you of anything needed in terms of assessment at this point in time.
In some of these qualifications awards can be progressed on a holistic basis similar to that used for HNC/D and your teaching staff are working through this.
For others, however, this is not yet possible and the outcome may be that work is deferred until you can come back into College to complete this. What is important is not to worry, arrangements and support will be in place for you to be able to complete any remaining work in due course.
Work is progressing with all of these bodies at a national (Scottish and UK) level to find the best solutions possible. This will take time, and further updates will be provided as information becomes known.
If you have any questions about the specific requirements for your course please raise these with your teaching staff in the first instance.
We are continuing to offer the usual support and guidance so please get in touch:
