D&A College recognised as a Carer Positive organisation

Dundee and Angus College is delighted to have recently been recognised as a Carer Positive employer for providing a workplace environment where carers feel supported and valued.

Carer Positive is operated by Carers Scotland on behalf of the Scottish Government. In 2011, a 'Caring for Carers' scheme was listed as one of the Scottish Government's ten manifesto commitments for carers with the aim being to recognise employers who offer the best support to carers and allow them the flexibility they need to deliver care at home. The Carers Positive awards were developed as a result of this commitment.

Dundee and Angus College has between 20 and 30 members of staff who identify as carers and understands that carrying out caring responsibilities alongside a job can be demanding and emotionally challenging. The College is committed to offering a wide range of support for staff carers including a Special Leave policy, flexible working arrangements and access to a counselling service. It also holds regular carer focus groups that help inform policy and process as well as provide a valuable support network.

Jane Cooper, Organisational Development Advisor at D&A College says:

“We are proud to be recognised as a Carer Positive organisation. Dundee & Angus College is committed to continuing to improve the support that we provide to our staff who have caring responsibilities. Any one of our staff could find themselves in a caring role, often without much warning or preparation, and this can have a huge impact on their wellbeing. Through our carers policy and practices we want to help our staff achieve a good work life balance and feel supported.”
