College strikes gold at prestigious national education awards

Dundee and Angus College has come home (‘virtually, of course’), with two prizes from this year’s College Development Network awards.

The College was recognized for two innovative and ground-breaking projects which the judges felt had enriched the learning experience.

The first triumph was scooping first place in the Inclusive College Award for the innovative ‘Find Your Future’ project. This partnership between Learner Engagement, Student Services and the Employability Team seeks out disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, gains their trust, nurtures them, supports them, educates them and helps relaunch then into the world of employment training and work.

The College’s Learner Engagement Team won more recognition with a ‘commended’ in the Essential Skills category. This was for their creation of a series of Escape Rooms designed to boost the teaching provision of Essential Skills. Although generally viewed as a popular corporate teambuilding experience, the Team recognized the wider benefits of Escape Rooms in terms of teaching. They also won plaudits for harnessing the collective skills of the College to build the fantasy sets, creating another layer of learning experience

Principal Simon Hewitt says ‘we’re extremely proud of our achievements as a college this year despite some incredibly challenging times. These projects are examples of how innovative and dedicated our staff are to helping and supporting our students and communities.’
