Caring is key at D&A College
Caring for its learners is at the heart of everything Dundee and Angus College does so it is delighted that new figures show that its care-experienced success rates are the best for any regional college in Scotland according to recently published Scottish Funding Council statistics.
The Funding Council’s results show D&A College has 469 care-experienced enrolments (5.6%, with a national average of 3.1%) and 68% of these learners have successfully completed their course, the best in Scotland, and above the national average for all students.
The College is proud to be making such a positive impact as this week’s Independent Care Review states the care system in Scotland needs a radical overhaul with love and nurture at its heart. It wants to ensure that care experienced children do not miss out on a future that all of our young people deserve.
D&A is committed to delivering this positive future and has introduced a pledge where it guarantees a place of study to all eligible care-experienced young people and adults who submit their applications by 31 March 2020. It also has a well-established We Care @ D&A group of students and staff who meet regularly to nurture and share experience, and ensure everyone at the college from care experienced backgrounds feel well supported.
Simon Hewitt, Vice Principal (Curriculum and Attainment) at D&A College says, “The support and nurture provided by everyone at D&A coupled with these recent success rates are a real testament to the amazing work we are doing to help care-experienced students achieve their full potential.”
