VTCT - SVQ 1 Hairdressing & Barbering
The purpose of the SVQ 1 in Hairdressing and Barbering at SCQF Level 4 qualification is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be a hairdressing or barbering assistant. The mandatory units are: Shampoo and Condition Hair; Preparing for Hair Services; Maintaining the Work Area; Contributing to the Development of Effective Working Relationships and Blow Drying Hair. There will also be further specialist hairdressing and barbering subjects.
This course is ideal for those with enthusiasm and motivation for the Hairdressing or Barbering industry. You will practise skills that are generic to Hairdressing and Barbering working on clients of all genders.
Previous attainment of a Level 1 part-time qualification (SCQF 4) in Hairdressing, Barbering and or Beauty Therapy and/or relevant industry experience is desirable.
Two National 4 qualifications or equivalent but not essential.
For applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at Intermediate 2 is required as excellent communication skills are needed.
Selection is based on a group information session, skills test and an individual interview. A satisfactory reference may be required.
Method of Assessment
Skills are assessed by direct observation. Open book assessments will take place throughout the course. Research will also be required.
Further study onto a Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering programme and/or gaining employment within a salon to develop your confidence and skills.
