Introduction to Beauty Therapy (VTCT Level 1 Diploma)
Course Content
This course provides an introduction to practical beauty therapy skills and prepares learners for further study. Units include: Improving the Appearance of the Hands and Feet with Basic Manicure and Pedicure Techniques; Cleansing; Toning and Moisturising Treatments; How to Give Advice on Skin Care and Basic Day Make-Up Application. To further enhance skills, artistic and creative elements such as nail art, themed face painting and photographic make-up will also be covered. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of health and safety and the skills required to support employment in the beauty therapy industry such as salon reception duties, presenting a professional image and working with others.
Entry Requirements
To apply for this course you must have a keen interest in Beauty Therapy. Previous attainment of a Level 1 part-time qualification (Senior Phase SCQF 4) in Beauty Therapy and/or relevant industry experience is desirable. You may be invited to a group information session, online interview and potentially complete a skills test. Two National 4 qualifications or equivalent are preferred but not essential. A satisfactory reference is required. For applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed.
Method of Assessment
Online quizzes, assignments, and exams will take place throughout the course and skills are assessed by direct observation. Research and self-study will also be required to successfully complete his course.
Future Prospects
Progression onto VTCT level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies.
