VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing
Course Content
The purpose of the VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing is to provide the basic skills and knowledge required to progress onto Level 2 Hairdressing or Level 2 Barbering. To kick start a career in hairdressing, this will allow learners to grow in confidence by working on model heads, each other and progressing to real clients. There are basic hairdressing elements such as an introduction into the industry, Health and Safety, Shampoo and Condition Hair, The Art of dressing hair, Styling and Plaiting hair, Basic Haircutting, Temporary Hair Colouring and Salon Reception kills. You will also gain essential skills including Exploring Social media. This course is an ideal starting point for those with enthusiasm and motivation for the hairdressing industry and wish to follow this as a career.
Entry Requirements
Previous attainment of a Level 1 part-time qualification (Senior Phase SCQF 4) in Hairdressing, Barbering and or Beauty Therapy and/or relevant industry experience is desirable. Two National 4 qualifications or equivalent but not essential. A good level of ICT competency and for applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at SCQF Level 5 is required as excellent communication skills are needed. You may be invited to a group information session, online interview and potentially complete a skills test. A satisfactory reference may be required.
Method of Assessment
Online quizzes, assignments, and exams will take place throughout the course and skills are assessed by direct observation. Research and self-study will also be required to successfully complete his course.
Future Prospects
Further study onto a Level 2 Hairdressing or Barbering programme. Gaining employment within a salon as an assistant to develop your skills. Opportunity to study MA SVQ Level 2 within a salon to continue your studies.
