PDA in Sociology

Course Content

Examine the foundations and historical and social context of the development of Sociology. Theoretical knowledge is applied to a range of social topics. Learners will be expected to study up to 3 hours in college as well as self-directed study of 8 hours per week. Individual PDAs can be self-funded however, four PDAs (Psychology, Sociology, Politics & History) can be undertaken to achieve an overall HNC Social Sciences award over 2 years. Please see our HNC Social Sciences (Part Time Evening) for this option. HNC Social Sciences can allow entry to 1st or 2nd year of related undergraduate courses including: Social Sciences, Psychology, Politics, History, Archaeology, International Relations, Criminology, Law and Sociology.

Entry Requirements

As this course is at SCQF level 7 (first year undergraduate level) applicants are required to demonstrate an ability to work at this academic level. This can be through proven prior study, employment and workplace practice or through a diagnostic assessment undertaken prior to entry.

Method of Assessment

Combination of open and closed book assessment as required by SQA.

Future Prospects

Progression to other Social Science PDAs: Psychology, History and Politics which with additional units can lead to an HNC in Social Sciences.
