PDA Education Support Assistance
Course Content
This course will support you to gain skills, knowledge and experience to progress into a career as a Learning & Care Assistant, supporting children and young people with additional support needs. You will develop strategies to promote positive behaviour, supporting children and young people's holistic development. You will study topics such as: First Aid, Infection Control, Moving & Handling and Supporting Children in an Educational Setting. You will undertake a work placement which will support you to plan, implement and evaluate a range of activities in an educational setting, these are in primary, secondary or enhanced settings. This is a partnership programme with Dundee City Council.
Entry Requirements
Three National 5s at grade C or above (in an academic area). Applicants who have successfully completed National 5 Child, Health and Social Care or National 5 Certificate in Early Education and Childcare will also be considered. Mature applicants will be assessed on an individual basis. Selection is based on: personal statement, qualifications and/or experience, one satisfactory reference and completion of a short values task. All applicants will require an acceptable PVG record.
Method of Assessment
Projects, reports and essay writing. Workplace practice: plan/implement/evaluate a range of activities supported by work experience mentor.
Future Prospects
Completion guarantees an interview with Dundee City Council (Learning & Care Assistant roles) and registration with the SSSC for Support Workers. Progression includes: HNC Childhood Practice or HNC Social Services.
