NEBOSH General Certificate

Course Content

The course is split into two units - NG1: Management of health and safety and NG2: Risk assessment.  These units are run over 10 working days.  

Unit NG1: Management of health and safety (Question Paper)

Element 1: Why we should manage workplace health and safety
Element 2: How health and safety management systems work and what they look like   Element 3: Managing risk – understanding people and processes                                                                             Element 4: Health and safety monitoring and measuring

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment (Practical Assessment)

Element 5: Physical and psychological health
Element 6: Musculoskeletal health                                     Element 7: Chemical and biological agents                        Element 8: General workplace issues                                 Element 9: Work equipment                                              Element 10: Fire                                                                Element 11: Electricity

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements however, it is advised candidates undertake the IOSH Managing Safely course or have practical experience of health and safety at work issues.

The tutor will contact candidates who register for this course to discuss suitability before the start date of their chosen course.

The standard of English required by candidates studying the NEBOSH course must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. 

Candidates must provide photographic ID on the first day of the course.

Method of Assessment

Unit NG1 unit is assessed by a two-hour written examination. Unit NG2 is assessed by providing a risk assessment carried out in the candidate's own workplace. 

Please note: Candidates will be required to pay an additional fee if a resit is required.

Future Prospects

Candidates can progress onto the NEBOSH Diploma.  Once you have your qualification parchment for the NGC, you can apply for the following memberships:


1. International Institute of Risk and Safety - Management Associate - (AIIRSM)

2. Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) -
Associate -  (AIOSH) or Technical - (Tech IOSH)
