NC Early Education and Childcare

Course Content

This course explores the key issues involved in supporting the Care, Learning and Development of Children and Young people. This course combines theory and practical work experience in an Early Years setting, including: Play in Practice: Workplace Experience, Developing an Understanding of Working with Children: Workplace Experience, Child Development: Theory, Child Development: Services for Children and Young People, Play in Early Education and Childcare. This will include a mixture of indoor and outdoor learning (both face-to-face and remote delivery). There will be a work placement in an Early Education and Childcare setting included within this course.

Entry Requirements

Three National 5s at grade C or above (one of these must be English) or equivalent. Applicants who have successfully completed National 5 Child, Health and Social Care or National 5 Certificate in Early Education and Childcare will also be considered. Mature applicants will be assessed on an individual basis. Selection is based on: personal statement, qualifications and/or experience, one satisfactory reference and completion of a short values task. All applicants will require an acceptable PVG record.

Method of Assessment

Summative assessments, class activities, written reports, essays and presentations.

Future Prospects

Possible progression to HNC Childhood Practice, university or employment. This course is recognised by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for registration requirements at support worker level.
