Introduction to Teaching English as a Foreign Language

Course Content

This course introduces the basics of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) also known as Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). This interactive taster course focuses on language analysis, teaching methodology and lesson planning where learners will acquire a toolkit of ideas and gain confidence in ability to either start teaching or to apply for a further teaching qualification. Learners will be given the opportunity to observe experienced teachers and to gain valuable skills by working as volunteers in our ESOL classes. These opportunities will be discussed during the course and will take place on completion.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have an interest in learning how to teach English as a Foreign Language but no previous experience is required. Non-native English speakers require a level of English at Upper-Intermediate/B2 or above. 

Method of Assessment

This course is assessed on a continuous basis throughout with no formal exam at the end. 

Future Prospects

Successful learners can progress to further teacher training and are guaranteed an interview for CELTA or PDA Introduction to Tutoring ESOL courses.
