Introduction to Agriculture and Estates Skills

Course Content

This course is suitable for applicants who wish to learn about agricultural and gardening machinery, food production, estate maintenance skills, safe working practices and who wish to progress to become work ready.

The course will help students gain an understanding of the countryside and the people who work there. It is a practical course which also has some basic academic units to help students deepen their knowledge. The Essential Skills units help students with numbers, language and other core skills needed for the modern worker. 

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. A demonstration of enthusiasm for working in agriculture/estates. Some evidence of working at SCQF Level 4/National 4 would be of benefit.

Method of Assessment

A demonstration of practical skills and competence, a small number of written assessments and a short local agriculture project.

Future Prospects

Students can progress onto SVQ Level 2 in Landscaping (Horticulture), Pre-Apprentice or Modern Apprentice training or into rural work on farms, horticulture businesses and estates.
