Higher English
Course Content
This intensive course requires a strong level of commitment to study to develop skills of understanding, analysing and evaluating the language of quality non-fiction and literature (drama, short stories, novels and poetry). Learners will develop skills to produce increasingly sophisticated communications, such as written and spoken language. The course is delivered in modules one evening a week with ongoing assessment. This course is also offered by distance learning with online tutor support.
Entry Requirements
Entry to this course is at the discretion of the college, however we expect applicants to have attained a minimum of a B pass at National 5 English or an equivalent level of study. Some applicants will be required to pass a diagnostic test and short interview to confirm suitability for the programme. Applicants are expected to attend classes weekly and commit to a further 3 hours of self study every week, to fulfil course work requirements.
Method of Assessment
Internal assessment, externally marked portfolio and exams. A satisfactory mark must be achieved in the prelim to be presented for the final exam.
Future Prospects
A pass at Higher English may fulfil one of the requirements for access to university or other education/training.
