This course develops knowledge and understanding of the particulate nature of matter and how the interactions of matter contribute to our environment, nature and the applications in industry. Learners will study a wide range of topics including: chemical reaction rates; patterns in the Periodic Table; structure and formula; and carbon compound reactions.
Applicants should have a National 5 (B grade) or Intermediate 2 (B grade) chemistry qualification or equivalent. Applicants will be invited for an interview and may be required to sit a short diagnostic test.
Method of Assessment
Learners will be assessed on course work, which will be submitted to SQA. Learners will also be assessed through the completion of an external exam.
Higher Chemistry is a useful science higher which, along with other appropriate level 6 qualifications, may allow progression to HNC Applied Science or university.
