HND Social Sciences (Year 2)

Course Content

This HND builds on the knowledge gained from HNC Social Sciences in all core subject areas. Subjects may include Sociology, Psychology, History, Criminology, Graded Project and Research Issues. Delivery may be split between Arbroath and Gardyne campuses. Guidance and support with study/ exam skills and UCAS applications are also provided. This 15 credit course may allow for 3rd year progression into various undergraduate degrees including programmes at Abertay, RGU, Aberdeen, UHI, Stirling, Glasgow Caledonian and the Open University.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of HNC Social Science with 15 credits and B grade for graded unit. All applicants with a C grade will be reviewed on a case by case basis. Further selection will be dependent upon a strong personal statement and/or reference from HNC provider.

Method of Assessment

This course contains a high academic workload. Assessments include: open and closed book, presentations, academic posters, blogs, co-operative learning and tutorials. This course also includes a graded project. A graded unit closed book exam may be used (following existing guidelines).

Future Prospects

Successful completion of this course may allow direct entry into 2nd or 3rd year of a wide range of undergraduate degrees including Social Sciences, Sociology, History, Criminology and Psychology.

For those not wishing to further their studies, HND Social Sciences allows progression to a wide range of careers, employment opportunities and volunteering.
