HND Physical Activity and Health

Course Content

This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an exercise professional in a variety of contexts. Specific aims of the HND are to increase awareness of the interdisciplinary nature of fitness and health and develop skills in exercise application and leadership. This course will develop an understanding of the role of fitness, health and exercise in contemporary society and the need to involve participants fully in their own fitness and health development. Learners have the opportunity to work with a host of industry partners through placement opportunities within the course. Delivery is split between Arbroath and Gardyne campuses. Upon successful completion of the course learners may register themselves as a Level 3 Personal Trainer with CIMSPA.

Entry Requirements

HNC in Physical Activity and Health (15 credits). Satisfactory reference may be required. PVG Scheme Membership is a mandatory requirement for placement.

Method of Assessment

Variety of ongoing assessments: practical performance, written assignments, presentations, portfolio, exams, placement and fitness session delivery.

Future Prospects

Successful completion could lead to 3rd-year sports and exercise science degree programs at various universities. Career opportunities with the private, local authority, and national organisations within the industry.
