HND Computing: Software Development (Year 1)

Course Content

Driven by an innovative, artificially intelligent world, and a growing digital economy, Software Developers are in demand in the Technology Sector. The HND Computing Software Development course will provide you with foundation in a range of software development and computing disciplines to prepare you for progression to HND, University or work within the Software Development. You will gain knowledge and skills in areas related to Software Engineering, Design Concepts, Mobile Application Development, Software Development, Database Systems, Web Authoring and Data Analysis which are highly valued within industry. Delivery is on a full-time to include lectures, practical tutorials and self-study sessions. 

Entry Requirements

Year 1

Four relevant National 5 or equivalent at level A/B plus two relevant Highers (C or above)


Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media or Foundation Apprenticeship in IT Software Development. 


Progression from SCQF level 5/6 Computing college course passing all credits and B grade achieved in Computing Project.


Mature applicants with relevant experience are assessed individually.

Year 2

Successful completion of all 15 SQA credits from HND Year 1 Software Development. Subject to interview selection process, plus suitable reference. 

Method of Assessment

Internal unit assessments are continuous throughout the course with a final exam in year 1 and a project at the end of the year 2.

Pathways to relevant degree programmes possible, providing you have met the stipulated University entry requirements. Excellent prospects for a successful career in the Computing and Technology or Cyber Security sector.
