HND Computer Arts and Design (Digital) (Year 1)
Course Content
Applicants select from either Digital Art (graphic design & illustration) or Animation. Both routes allow learners to develop their creative thinking and design skills through a series of exciting projects. Emphasis is placed on developing your creativity, independent thinking, and organisation skills. You will develop understanding in areas such as: research; sketchbook working; idea generation and concept development; drawing skills; research methods and contextual studies exploring the work of relevant artists/designers. The Animation stream focuses on 2D/3D animation, games and VR art. The Digital Art streams includes graphic design and illustration; motion design; typography and corporate identity.
Entry Requirements
1 relevant Higher/equivalent qualifications, preferred English and Art/Design or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 6 course (and minimum 85% attendance). At interview: a portfolio of work is required such as drawings/designs/photography. Mature applicants without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a strong portfolio. To progress into 2nd year of this course learners must successfully complete all 1st year units and satisfactory attendance, timekeeping and commitment.
Method of Assessment
Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.
Future Prospects
Successful learners may progress on to study at leading Scottish Art School/university degree programmes or may progress on to work in Creative Industries roles, gaming, film & TV, publishing, freelance design etc.
