HND Applied Biological Sciences (Year 2)
Course Content
This course covers a wide range of subjects including: microbiology; biochemistry; DNA; the human body; human metabolism; biomedical pathology and investigations; immunology; and laboratory skills. In addition to the theoretical aspects, this programme offers the opportunity to develop practical skills and experience in techniques such as PCR, chromatography, spectrophotometry and gel electrophoresis.
Entry Requirements
Second year entry requires HNC Applied Sciences with 15 credits or equivalent.
Method of Assessment
End of unit assessment or by the completion of course work. There will be no end of course assessment but continual assessment throughout the year.
Future Prospects
Successful completion of the course would allow entry to second or third year university life science courses. Alternatively, the qualification would allow employment as a technician in the local life-science industry.
