HNC Social Sciences
Course Content
This course may include subjects such as Research and Methodology, Sociology, Psychology, Investigation, Social Anthropology, History, Counselling and Criminology (and Geography at Gardyne Campus). Guidance and support with study/exam skills and UCAS applications is provided. This course totals 15 credits to allow for 2nd year articulation into various undergraduate degrees including at Abertay, RGU, Aberdeen, UHI, Stirling, St Andrews and the Open University. Social Science allows progression to an extensive range of 1st or 2nd year undergraduate degrees and a wide range of careers. Progression to HND level study will depend on successful completion of all units, performance, attendance and reference.
Entry Requirements
Two relevant Highers; or one relevant Higher and NPA or PDA; or a relevant Level 6 group award with all course credits successfully achieved, or equivalent. Further selection on the basis of a strong personal statement. For current/prior learners attendance record/previous performance and staff reference is considered. Relevant Highers include, but are not limited to, English, History, Maths, Modern Studies, Politics, Geography, RMPS, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Classical Studies, Media Studies, Art.
Method of Assessment
High academic workload. Open and closed book assessments, blogs, academic posters, presentations. Graded Unit closed book exam.
Future Prospects
Allows progression to HND Social Sciences, 1st or 2nd year entry for many related courses including Social Sciences, Criminology, Sociology, History, Politics, Social Anthropology, Psychology, Philosophy & Geography.
