HNC Social Sciences
Subjects may include Research and Methodology, Sociology, Psychology, Investigation, Social Anthropology, History and Criminology (and Geography at Gardyne Campus). Guidance and support with study/exam skills and UCAS applications are also provided. Graded Unit examination totalling 15 credits to allow for 2nd year articulation into various undergraduate degrees including at Abertay, RGU, Aberdeen, UHI, Stirling and the Open University. Social Science allows progression to an extensive range of 1st or 2nd year undergraduate degrees and a wide range of careers. Progression to HND level study at D&A will depend on successful completion of all units, performance, attendance and reference.
Two appropriate Highers; or an appropriate Level 6 group award with all course credits successfully achieved, or equivalent. Further selection on basis of personal statement and interview and potential reference. For current/prior students attendance record/previous performance is considered.
Method of Assessment
High academic workload. Open and closed book assessments, blogs, academic posters, presentations. Graded Unit closed book exam.
Allows progression to HND Social Sciences, 1st or 2nd year entry for many related courses including Social Sciences, Criminology, Sociology, History, Politics, Social Anthropology, Psychology, Philosophy & Geography.
