HNC Police Studies
This course includes subjects such as Research, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Interview Techniques, Law and Exercise. Guidance and support with study/exam skills and UCAS applications is provided. This 15 credit course may allow articulation into a range of 1st or 2nd year undergraduate degrees and a wide range of careers including the Police Service, Criminal Justice System, Scottish Legal System, Armed Forces, Fire and Prison service (including private custodial and security services), Social Services, youth or community work and voluntary work.
Two relevant Highers; or one relevant Higher and NPA or PDA in Criminology; or a relevant Level 6 group award with all course credits achieved; or equivalent. Further selection on basis of strong personal statement. For current/prior learners attendance record/previous performance and staff reference is considered. Relevant Highers include, but are not limited to; English, History, Maths, Modern Studies, Politics, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Media Studies, Art, Health and Food Tech, Physical Education.
Method of Assessment
High academic workload. Combination of open and closed book assessments as required by SQA. Graded Unit closed book exam.
Can enable progression to 1st or 2nd year entry for many related undergraduate degrees in Police Studies, Criminology, Law and Social Sciences; or a variety of career opportunities in the emergency services.
