Course Content

This course aims to develop knowledge of providing patient care. Learners will study the professional standards and the psychological and sociological aspects of care. They will gain a good understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the human body and both mental and physical disease processes. A work placement will be undertaken.

Entry Requirements

Two Highers at Grade C or above in relevant subject areas or equivalent. Successful completion of Access to Nursing course. A qualification in biology, or evidence of study in Anatomy and Physiology, is advantageous. Selection will be made on a satisfactory personal statement and reference. Learners will require a PVG check. As a placement is involved, it is expected that applicants will have good health, wellbeing, and resilience to cope with the demands of care provision. 

Method of Assessment

A range of assignment methods are used including projects, reports, essay writing, exams and competencies that need to be met in practice.

Future Prospects

Completion may allow progression to 1st year undergraduate nursing degree programmes at university.

There may be an opportunity for 2nd year entry however this will require extra clinical hours in practice and further clinical competencies to be met.
