HNC Computing

Course Content

In a world where just about everything is digital, there is an increased need for skilled workers to support a growing digital economy. The HNC Computing is a broad-spectrum course that will provide you with a good foundation in a range of computing related disciplines to prepare you for progression on to an HND, university or related work within the Computing Industry. You will gain knowledge and skills in areas related to Software Development, Computer Networking, Web design, Linux Operating Systems and Cyber Security. Delivery is on a full-time basis to include lectures, practical tutorials and self-study sessions. 

Entry Requirements

Four National 5 qualifications at A or B and two Highers including one in a STEM subject (C or above). 


Progression from SCQF level 5/6 Computing college course A grade with all credits. 


Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative and Digital Media or Foundation Apprenticeship in IT Software Development. 


Mature applicants with relevant experience will be assessed individually. All applicants will be invited to a 2 stage interview and asked to provide a reference.

Method of Assessment

Internal unit assessments are continuous throughout the course with a final exam at the end of the year. 

Future Prospects

Progression to HND Computing Science, HND Software Development or HND Networking. Pathways to related degree programmes. Excellent prospects for a successful career in the Computing and Technology sector.
