HNC Childhood Practice

Course Content

This course will enable learners to advance skills, knowledge and experience to develop a career within Childhood Practice. It includes a variety of subjects relevant to working with children and young people. The aim is to give learners a worthwhile, recognised qualification, which gives them the knowledge and skills required to be an Early Years Educator. Workplace practice is of primary importance, learners can either be in employment or participate in a period of workplace practice experience in an early years setting organised by the centre. This course includes: three SVQ Units from SVQ Social Services: Children and Young People Award at Level 3. An acceptable PVG record check is required.

Entry Requirements

Two Highers at C grade or above, preferably English, plus experience of working with children or successful completion of the NC Early Education and Childcare or Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services Children and Young People. Selection is on personal statement, qualifications, experience, reference and a written exercise completed at a group information session. 

Method of Assessment

Projects, reports, essay writing and Graded Unit. Work Experience Portfolio and gain evidence from the workplace and a workplace observation.

Future Prospects

Possible progression to PDA/HND Childhood Practice (SCQF Level 8) or employment at practitioner level. This programme meets the registration requirements for SSSC for Early Years Practitioner.
