HNC Animal Care
This course allows learners to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of issues around animal care including: Biology; Welfare; Health and Disease; and Behaviour and First Aid. Learners will also develop relevant skills in academic research, communications and ICT. The course features a large ongoing practical skills development unit.
Progressing learners: please refer to conditions set by department. New students: a minimum of two Highers (or equivalent) in academic subjects at grade C (ideally one science subject). Applicants with an NC from another college will be considered with a satisfactory reference (including attendance) from their previous college. References are required for all applicants.
Method of Assessment
This course is a mixture of written assessments, practical assessments, reports and a Graded Unit examination.
Potential entry to HND Animal Care or degrees including animal science and vet nursing. Career prospects include SSPCA, dog wardens, vet practices and zoos. Learners should check entry requirements for university courses.
