VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies (2018/19)

Course Content

This course has been designed to develop practical skills by covering the following mandatory units: facial skincare, waxing, eyelash and eyebrow treatments, manicure, pedicure, client care and health and safety along with optional units such as nail art, make-up, skin tanning and eyelash perming which will enhance employability within the industry. The course should develop beauty therapy skills to a high level of occupational ability. This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.

Target Audience

This course targets school leavers and adult returners.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have a minimum of 2 qualifications at National 5 or equivalent with English and a science preferable but not essential. Previous industry experience is beneficial but not essential and good communication skills must be evident at interview and applicants must show a passion for the industry. Applicants will undertake a group information session which may be followed by a skills test and interview.

Future Prospects

Students from this award may progress to VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy Studies, ITEC Complementary Therapies Level 3 or VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Make-Up Artistry. This qualification may also lead directly into employment in the beauty therapy industry as: a junior beauty therapist in a salon, a beauty consultant in the retail industry or self-employment as a mobile beauty therapist.


Candidates are assessed through observation and closed book assessment. Some research assessment material is required.
