Introduction to Hairdressing - Session 1 (2018/19)

Course Content

This qualification will provide you with the basic knowledge and skills in preparation for a career as a hairdresser. You will learn to: reduce risks to health and safety; have a healthy lifestyle within this physically demanding career; prepare for hair services and maintain work areas; prepare and maintain salon treatment work areas; how to present a professional image whilst learning skills in shampooing and conditioning hair, styling and blow drying hair and carry out research.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must be aged 16 or over at the start of the course and have achieved National 3/4 qualifications. Industry experience or other qualifications will be considered. For applicants where English is not their first language then ESOL at Intermediate 2 is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with members of the general public, staff and their peers is required. Enthusiasm and motivation for the hairdressing industry and a creative ability would be an advantage. Entry is based on a group information session, a skills test and an individual interview. A satisfactory reference may be required.
