ITEC Complementary Therapies (2018/19)

Course Content

The content is set out and mostly examined by ITEC external examiners. Covers theory and practice in: - Aromatherapy; Holistic massage; Reflexology; On-site Massage; Business Awareness & Professional Conduct; Indian Head Massage; Anatomy & Physiology; Hot Stone Therapy. Workbooks and essential equipment are necessary for the participation of this course. Extensive study is required to enable completion of this award. You will need to source your own clients for some of the treatments.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of three National 5s or equivalent, including English and a Science, and a satisfactory reference. All applicants are required to attend a group information session followed by an interview where they must demonstrate passion for the industry and good communication skills. A flexible approach is required as there may be an element of evening study.

Future Prospects

Successful completion enables students to practise as a Complementary Therapist.


Assessment consists of extensive case studies for each unit which is supported within the curriculum and extensive study is expected and necessary. There are practical observations with theory exams which are mostly taken by external ITEC.
