Chemistry, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, DNA and genetics, human body, human metabolism, biomedical pathology and investigations, immunology, IT, statistics and laboratory skills. In addition to the theoretical aspects of chemistry and biological, this programme offers the opportunity to develop practical skills and experience in techniques such as PCR, spectrometry and gel electrophoresis.
At least 2 SQA passes at Higher level, one of which should be biology or chemistry with good grades in other relevant subjects at Intermediate 2 or Standard Grade. Work experience or other qualifications will be considered. Second year entry requires HNC applied sciences or equivalent.
This programme is suitable for those seeking a career in a range of laboratory-based biosciences. Successful completion of the course would allow entry to second or third year university life science courses. Alternatively the qualification would allow employment as a technician in the local life-science industry in hospital or research laboratories.
