Access to Life Sciences (SWAP) (2018/19)

Course Content

SWAP Access courses are specifically designed for adults returning to full-time education after a significant break and those who are looking for a change in career direction. It is an intensive course which aims to prepare you academically, and to give you the opportunity to develop the skills and confidence you need, for entry into university or HNC courses. This course offers a great opportunity to obtain a solid grounding in the science of living organisms. You will study a broad range of subjects including units in Chemistry, Maths and Biology as well as core units in communications and IT. Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the course, however, you must be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment and motivation. Applicants will have a personal interview and may be required to take a Maths/English skills test to gain entry onto the course. To be eligible to enrol as a SWAP Access student you should have been out of full-time education for at least 3 years if you have previous Level 5 qualifications, or 5 years if you already have Highers or HNC/D qualifications.

Future Prospects

Successful completion of the Access to Life Sciences course will allow you to apply for a wide range of degree programmes at a number of partner universities. Examples of some of the possible degree programmes include biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy or environmental sciences. Alternatively you could choose to progress to a related HNC/D programme at College.
