Topics covered include: health & safety, Establishing and maintaining plants, lawn care, machinery, plant protection and plant identification. Candidates normally take around 18 months to complete SVQ level 2. Pa1, Pa6 spraying certificates and Emergency First Aid are also covered (this may incur additional cost if not on the college Modern Apprentice programme.) Assessed while attending college in addition to the practical experience gained in the workplace.
Candidates will normally be employed in the horticulture or landscape gardening industry at a trainee level or employees with practical knowledge but no formal qualifications.
Candidates will be employed in the horticulture or a related industry and must have the ability to work at SCQF level 5 or above.
Most expected to progress onto SVQ Level 3 Parks, Gardens and Open Spaces. With a view to gaining full-time employment.
The course is made up 11 units and is continually assessed throughout the year both at the candidate's workplace and in college.
