Access to Physical Sciences (SWAP)
This course is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of physics, chemistry and maths. In addition to these core subjects, learners will also be working towards developing skills in communications and IT. This course can accept learners who are eligible for SWAP (Scottish Wider Access Programme) status. SWAP courses are designed for learners who have been out of full-time education for at least 3 years. For learners who are not SWAP eligible, this course will provide an opportunity to progress onto HN level studies in Applied Science or other relevant subject.
There are no formal entry requirements however, applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of commitment and motivation. Applicants will be interviewed and may be required to take a Maths skills test. To be an eligible SWAP Access student, applicants must have been out of full time education for at least 3 years if they previously studied level 5 qualifications, or 5 years for level 6 qualifications. There are English efficiency entry requirements of 6.0 IELTS score for students who have English as a second language.
Method of Assessment
Closed-book assessments at the end of each unit and the completion of compulsory practical experiments.
