Access to Nursing (encompassing SWAP)

Course Content

This course is designed to prepare learners to enter higher education at HNC or degree level. It covers a variety of Higher level subjects comprising 18 credits (care-related units and core skills), an externally marked project-based assignment and a voluntary placement element.

Entry Requirements

Four National 5s at C pass or above, or equivalent, to include English and other core skills must be minimum Level 4, or successful completion of a Level 5 Care course or successful completion of SVQ Level 2 or 3 Care course. Selection will be made on a satisfactory personal statement and qualifications, and a diagnostic task if required. All applicants will be considered on an individual basis.

Method of Assessment

Assessment methods include class activities, written reports, essays and an exam.

Future Prospects

Completion of all units, a good attendance record and a positive reference may allow learners to progress to either university degree courses in adult, mental health and learning disability nursing only, HNC Healthcare Practice or HNC Social Services.

Please note for SWAP learners this course may lead to Children's Nursing at RGU.

This course will not lead to Midwifery.
