Certificate in Zoo Studies
This course includes both theory and practical study and is delivered at the college and at Camperdown Wildlife Centre, Dundee. It includes a behaviour and welfare project (for which you will produce a documentary) and elements essential to the operation of modern zoos such as Nutrition, Health Monitoring, Enclosure Design, Health and Safety, Customer Care, Human-Animal Interactions, and guaranteed work experience element.
External Applicants: Minimum of four National 5s at grade A-C (preference for Maths, English, Biology, and ICT) or equivalent e.g. Standard Grades or GCSEs.
Continuing Students: Successful completion of a relevant National Certificate (e.g. Animal Care, Science) including Essential Skills at SCQF Level 5. Reference and evidence of excellent attendance will be required.
Method of Assessment
A project, open and closed book assessments and reports.
Successful learners may wish to progress onto HNC Animal Care or use the qualification as a stepping-stone towards careers in animal/zoo keeping.
