Course Content

This dynamic, skills driven course is aimed at beginners interested in textiles for learning about fashion and interiors. Focusing on the design process you will explore creative drawing and design using mixed media, surface decoration/pattern and making skills. Subjects include printmaking, fashion illustration, product and garment construction and an interior project. Our expert staff will encourage and assist you in the development of your creative process during workshop activities and one-to-one tutorials. You will develop both sewing machine and hand stitch skills. Teaching takes place in our textiles design studios with our supportive and friendly staff. You will become successful through commitment, focus and good timekeeping.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 2 relevant Nat 5/equivalent qualifications, preferred English and Art/Design or successful completion of a relevant SCQF level 5 course (and minimum 85% attendance on this course). At interview applicants should bring a portfolio of art and design work such as drawings/designs/photography. Digital portfolios submissions are also accepted. Mature candidates without formal qualifications will be considered on presentation of a portfolio.

Method of Assessment

Continuous internal/external assessment with the focus on portfolio production and submission.

Future Prospects

Successful students may progress to our two-year HND Textiles programme or also apply to another HN level Art & Design course in our department.
