Access to Higher Education - OU Choices

Course Content

The Open University (OU) are collaborating with the college to offer OU Choices: a full time course which blends delivery to prepare for higher level study, training or employment. This full-time programme combines college class delivery with an online OU Access module over 3 days a week. The course develops academic research and study skills towards SQA units (at level 6) including: Combined English (Communication NC and Literature 1); Leadership; Academic Study Skills; as well as National 5 Maths. These complement the OU access module of your choice: Arts and Language, People, Work and Society or Science, Technology and Maths.

Entry Requirements

Level 5 qualifications, particularly in English and Maths or Communication and Numeracy are essential. As this is a blended learning opportunity, applicants will need to be self-motivated, have a working knowledge of ICT and access to technology. Some experience of level 6 study is desirable. Applicants may be invited for a diagnostic test and interview to assess suitability for the course.

Method of Assessment

Portfolio-based and assessed through ongoing course work and graded by both D&A College and OU lecturers. There is an end exam for National 5 Maths.

Future Prospects

All attending OU Choices students are guaranteed an interview at HN. Abertay University welcome applications from our students to apply to the first year for a range of degrees. Successful completion of this course prepares candidates for higher level study at HN level, university or employment.
