English Language (ESOL) - Full-Time
Designed to help learners improve their English language skills in order to prepare for living, working and studying in the UK and to be able to use English for international communication. The course focuses on developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary. There is a strong focus on interactive communication and the course also includes project work with a special focus on Scotland, guided self-study (one hour per week), one-to-one support from a dedicated group tutor and cultural visits and events. Levels: Beginner – Advanced. Applicants with settled and pre-settled status are eligible for course funding.
There are no formal entry requirements for the course but applicants must have basic literacy skills in English. Applicants living locally must attend a group interview/information session and will be tested to determine their English language level. Applicants living abroad will be asked to do a written task and return by email. They must then attend an information/testing session in August. Minimum age: normally 18, but students over 16 may be accepted if they are staying with family or a legal guardian
Method of Assessment
Regular tests with all learners progressing towards SQA Units. Learners may also undertake Cambridge English Qualifications.
On successful completion and dependent on the level achieved, learners can progress to university, other college courses or benefit from enhanced work prospects.
